Lingenheld Environnement commissioned a contaminated soil treatment facility in Lorraine, France, to address growing challenges in land remediation and material recovery. This initiative is part of the group’s broader sustainability strategy, aimed at reducing landfill and promoting circular economy practices in the construction sector. With the launch of one of one of the very first platforms for washing contaminated soil in France, Lingenheld Environnement pioneered a new approach to decontamination, based on innovation, local recovery and circularity. This facility is an essential link in the group's decontamination chain, offering a sustainable alternative that complies with regulatory requirements.

The Challenge
Before the facility was built, Lingenheld faced several key challenges. The company needed a technology capable of efficiently treating soils heavily contaminated with various pollutants, including heavy metals, while ensuring strict compliance with hazardous waste traceability regulations.
It also sought an industrial solution that was both economically viable and environmentally exemplary, and that could integrate seamlessly into its broader remediation offering.

The CDE Solution
To meet these challenges, Lingenheld partnered with CDE to implement a wet processing solution. The facility includes a R2500 primary scalping screen, an M1500 modular sand washing plant with dewatering screen and EvoWash™, an AggMax™ logwasher, an AquaCycle™ thickener, and a filter press for sludge treatment. This setup enables the processing of up to 90 tonnes per hour of contaminated materials, ensuring effective separation of pollutants and local reuse of cleaned materials.
The integrated water recycling system helps reduce consumption and environmental impact.
"On a daily basis, we see the reliability and flexibility of the process. The facility adapts to a wide range of soils and pollution levels while consistently delivering high-quality recovered materials. It enables us to meet regulatory requirements and market expectations efficiently." Ludovic Andréoni, Site Manager

The Results
Since its commissioning in 2020, the facility has processed approximately 89,500 tonnes of contaminated materials. It has significantly increased the group’s treatment capacity while reducing overall waste management costs.
The plant produces two high-quality recycled materials: 0-4 mm sand, used as sub-base or fill, and 4-32 mm aggregate, reused in various construction projects. These materials, which comply with current standards, are reintroduced into the construction cycle, reducing dependence on virgin natural resources.
The facility has strengthened Lingenheld’s position as a trusted partner in remediation, offering a reliable, sustainable, and regulation-compliant solution. It actively contributes to the regional circular economy and helps lower the carbon footprint associated with transporting excavated soils.
